Inside Our Unionville Home Renovation Project
Moving from a Toronto townhome into a larger suburban house marked a new chapter for our clients. They wanted more than extra space, they wanted a true home. A place to live, grow, entertain, and raise their family. That vision became this Unionville home renovation, where every room was thoughtfully redesigned to reflect their lifestyle, personality, and everyday needs. For us, design always begins with the people who will live in the space. The goal is never just to make a home look beautiful. It must also feel welcoming and function effortlessly. We were especially excited that our clients embraced bold choices, playful details, and unique design moments throughout the project.

A Strong First Impression
Bold personality begins right at the entrance. Our clients wanted black and white flooring, so we explored multiple geometric tile layouts before selecting the final pattern. The result creates a striking first impression the moment you walk through the door. You can see how bold finishes were also used in our Unionville Powder Room Reveal.

Warm Contemporary Main Floor Design
From the entrance, the main floor opens into a warm contemporary interior. We didn’t completely rebuild the structure, but thoughtful upgrades transformed the feel of the space. Oak engineered herringbone flooring pairs beautifully with black accents like the staircase railing and framed glass details. Arched doorways add architectural softness, while playful wallpaper glimpses through the home office doors reveal the homeowners’ fun personality.

Mudroom and Powder Room With Personality
The main floor also includes a powder room and a fully redesigned mudroom/laundry space. In the powder room, we embraced contrast with black penny tile walls, geometric flooring, and a floating vanity. Though compact, it makes a bold statement. You can say the laundry and mudroom became one of the most functional spaces in the house. Large terrazzo porcelain flooring introduced colour and set the palette for the room. We shared the full details in our Unionville Mudroom and Laundry Transformation article.

The Kitchen: Favourite Transformation of the Home
Of course, our favourite room in the entire project was the kitchen. It evolved from a dated baby-blue layout with limited storage into a sleek contemporary showpiece. Black and light grey cabinetry are balanced by natural oak details, while the porcelain countertop and backsplash bring drama and elegance. To improve daily function, we added a cantilevered table to the island in place of a separate breakfast table. Hidden just beyond the dining room is a walk-in pantry that adds charm and practical storage. Explore more details in our Unionville Kitchen Transformation feature.
Dining Room Designed to Connect
This room was redesigned to flow naturally from the kitchen while still feeling like its own destination. Natural oak reeded walls, custom black bench seating, and repeated materials from the kitchen create cohesion. Warm tones, black accents, and light grey finishes give the room a refined but welcoming atmosphere.

Formal Living Room vs Relaxed Family Room
The living room offers a lighter, calmer mood. Our client envisioned a white room, so we layered textures and subtle contrast through furniture and accessories. By comparison, the family room was designed for everyday comfort. Soft textiles, layered patterns, and a wood-burning fireplace make it the perfect retreat. We refaced the fireplace using the same porcelain as the kitchen and added a wood mantel to tie the spaces together. A new black-framed glass partition helped open the room while preserving furniture layout flexibility.

Primary Suite Designed as a Retreat
Upstairs, the primary suite was designed to feel peaceful and spa-like. The bedroom features a striking black canopy bed, soft textures, and a calm neutral palette. Custom touches in the ensuite include a floating vanity, dedicated makeup area, and carefully coordinated finishes that continue the contemporary look of the home. Basement Reimagined
The finished basement originally lacked direction. We transformed it into a stylish gym and bar area. A mint Smeg fridge adds playful retro charm, while black glass cabinetry keeps the bar sleek and modern. In the gym, a neon sign brings energy and personality.

Final Thoughts on Unionville Home Renovation
This Unionville home renovation was about more than updating finishes. It was about creating a home that reflects the people living in it. From the bold entry tile to the calm primary suite, every room was designed with intention, personality, and practicality in mind. That is always our goal: beautiful spaces that truly feel like home.
